Seeking perfection and complete satisfaction in an imperfect world with imperfect people may be a great task to take on, but one that will never lead to full accomplishment. I’ve come to the realization, that no one is truly satisfied with their life. Regardless of their beliefs, living conditions and social status, everyone wants more. Many times we don’t even know what “more” is.
A millionaire may long for love, a poverty stricken family longs for food and the average Joe may long for a better job. Even a white picket fence family with 2.5 kids and a dog is not fully satisfied. It doesn’t matter what house you live in, what type of car you drive, which job you have or the number of college degrees you’ve earned. Most of us will not reach a sign at the end of the road that reads “Welcome to Complete Satisfaction”.
But even though deep down we know this to be true, we continue day after day trying to reach that point in our lives. Along the way, we take for granted all the wonderful things that we do have. The things that are right in front us. Instead of focusing on what we don’t have, we should be focusing on what we do. But, we’re so busy waiting for tomorrow, that we don’t enjoy today.
Perfection and full satisfaction may not be attainable, but that should not lessen our life’s value. Enjoy what you have, appreciate it and don’t take it for granted.
Why focus on tomorrow and the unknown, when today is already right in front of you?
