It was like any other morning. The sun rose above the horizon, filling the sky with hues of pink, purple and red. A gentle breeze drifted across the earth, carrying with it the leaves that blanketed the ground.
Kissing his wife goodbye, he headed out the door for work. As he drove, he smiled at an elderly couple as they walked hand in hand down the sidewalk with their dog.
Waiting at the bus stop, he watched as mothers waved goodbye to their children as they boarded their school bus.
He continued on.
The traffic was lighter than normal and for that he was grateful. At a stop light, he saw a woman singing in her car, and another laughing with her passenger.
The light turned green. He drove ahead. Looking to his left, he saw it. A car racing through the intersection heading straight for him. Everything went dark.
He saw himself lying on the ground. This was his last day.
Regrets overwhelmed him. There was so much that he wanted to do, but never did. Things he should have done, but was always too busy.
He thought to himself, “Had I known that this was going to be my last day, I would have…”
We never know when our last day will be.
Imagine that this were you. Your day starts out like any other, but unknown to you, it will be your last. Would you have regrets about things left undone, words left unsaid?
If you were then given one more day, what would you do with it?
Have your answer?
Then what are you waiting for? Why wait until it’s too late? Do it now. The only moment we are guaranteed, is this moment right now.

I agree so much with you…

So true, you just never know what might happen from one moment to the next. I have found that the older I get the more I think about time running out and all the things that I have always wanted to do and have yet too. Great post.

Same here. Age certainly has a way of making us appreciate our time. I’ve found that losing loved ones has an even greater impact. Makes us realize just how short life is.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! We have had several deaths this year and none of them where we knew they were coming. We have absolutely no guarantee of tomorrow…we only have today. I try not to let words go unspoken but I’m sure I do. Thank you for the reminder! 🙂

Death has a way of opening our eyes to the shortness of life and just how important each day, each moment and each person is. It’s wonderful that you endeavor to not leave things unsaid. I do the same, as we don’t know if that will be our last chance to say it. Thank you, Courtney!

I was widowed when I was young, my husband died suddenly, unexpectedly. I always said “I love you” to him upon any parting. It helped to know that my last words to him were, “I love you.”
I tell my children, every opportunity I have, how much I love them because I don’t know when my last day will be.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Can’t even imagine. It’s wonderful though that you always made sure to tell him that you love him and that you do the same with your children. We never know what tomorrow will bring, and we certainly want our last words to be words of kindness and love. Thank you so much for your comment.
