Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right

kids2

I was always taught that two wrongs don’t make a right. If a bully picks on my son, that doesn’t give him the right to go pick on someone else. If a man robs my house, that doesn’t give me the right to rob my neighbor’s.

We are to lead and to teach by example – good example.  That’s what I was taught.

Unfortunately, it appears that this lesson no longer applies. All across the world are people who have been offended. Their way of fixing it? By offending others. Dressing in attire that would be better suited for a low-budget porn film and speaking with words that are no where near appropriate for children’s ears – while in their presence.

What I’ve seen lately hasn’t been a movement. It’s been a disgusting show of character. Morals and values are being tossed out the window, for the sake of what? To prove a point?

The only point being proven is that society is even more polluted than we thought. It’s a sad day when families take their children to mass gatherings to witness fullgrown adults behaving with such disregard to the small and impressionable minds of their children and the ones around them.

kids

I understand that people are hurt, afraid, and offended, but that should not be a free pass to do and act however they please. Of course they have the right to protest, but if they want to make a point – a real point – that people will listen to, then they need to behave in a manner in which they will be taken seriously.

Running through the streets with vulgar hats, outfits and speech is only going to compel people with like minds to join them. What it won’t do, is compel the people in charge to listen.

Worst of all, it will teach their children that that sort of behavior is okay. The next time they don’t agree with something they’re asked to do, look out because they will behave the same way. As for the parents, they will have no right to complain about it or discipline them, because they are the ones who taught their children to be that way.

In every protest, no matter the cause, people claim that what they are doing is for the benefit of current and future generations. But, when it’s not carried out in a mature and respectable manner, then what they’re really doing, is creating a nation of undisciplined adults who will not respect nor heed to the voice of authority. A nation of lawlessness.

You think the world is bad now? Just wait.

  1. While they are trying to make a point and probably having fun in the march or protest or rally, I agree that these types of demonstrations won’t do much to convince others to listen to their POV. Interesting photos.

Likewise, I imagine that it is fun and a ‘feel good’ moment for them. It’s a gathering of unity like many of them have probably never experienced. That’s exciting. But, a gathering can be just as fun and much more effective if it’s done in a more responsible manner. Earn respect and people will listen. Thank you for the comment!

      • Yeah, while it might have been fun to make and a hoot to wear, no one is going to take a parading labia costume seriously. And while there is a message there no one can get past the Vag-suit. While children should learn about anatomy, I’m not convinced this is a good way. Of course women should not be ashamed of their bodies but this will never appeal to any conservative in any thoughtful manner.

I absolutely agree. Health education is taught in school and do so appropriately. It shouldn’t be taught on the street with people yelling out crude words and wearing genitalia – behaving in a way that back in the day (and still now) would make most people cringe. It’s one thing to protest and let your voice be heard. It’s a completely different thing to portray your cause with vulgarity and outright disrespect. I’m all for taking a stand, but I doubt I will ever agree with that type of ‘protest’.

  3. Yes, the world will get a lot worse, but it won’t be because thousands (millions) of women donned their pink outfits and marched PEACEFULLY in the streets. It will be because we have people in charge (and that includes the well-behaved Christian Right), who are breaking all of the laws of good intent, and creating legislation that will damage the rights of others. Their agenda is self-serving and ruthless. Demonstrating meekly, waving signs passively, and speaking nicely—all of that has been tried before. These are tough times, requiring tough action.

I find it interesting that you say that the people in charge, including the Christian Right, are the ones who’s agenda is self-serving and ruthless. I see no people from the Christian Right blocking the streets forcing their beliefs on others. Many of the Left’s protests have done just that. As for self-serving…. Abortion is self-serving. Fighting to use a bathroom that is not yours is self-serving. *Illegally* entering a country is self-serving. Wanting everything to be your way is self-serving. What the Right wants is peace, morality and a safe nation for all. We understand that there are consequences for the actions taken. Consequences that everyone, even those who have participated in this and many other protests, will eventually have to pay for. Peaceful protests are great, but the fact of the matter is, is that what the future generations are being taught is that ‘they better get their way or else.’ The consequences of this mindset can already be seen in schools, homes, public spaces and on the street. Kids are unruly and they didn’t become that way by chance. They were taught by example. We can protest. But, we need to look further than the ‘right now’ and consider the future consequences of our actions.

  4. What has happened here, in this brief discussion you and I have had, illustrates the truth about America today. There is real division among people, and it will not be easy to find a way for people to exist side by side, without trying to be ‘right’ and change the other. This will be the real tragedy of this country, moving forward.

You are right that people are pretty set in their ways and division is overtaking the nation. It is sad indeed. As for this, I do understand why people are protesting. I may not agree with their arguments, but the main part I disagree with is the way in which they are doing it. In all things in life there is a right and a wrong way to do things. I feel that their way is unwise and will not be listened to nor respected. Regardless, I think that we should all be open to listen to one another, to express our opinions and have open discussions. Conversation enables us to gain new perspectives and to see the world through another person’s eyes. We may not change our opinion, but it may loosen our mindset up a bit. That is why I appreciate the community we have here. We can have these types of conversation, in a mature manner. With that said, thank you for discussing this with me.

  6. This is really an awesome post!! It is difficult and disappointing that grown adults cannot be the example for children because children mimic their parents. I am not a parent but I can understand how children could be messed up in the long hall.

Thank you! That is my point exactly. It’s fine to protest, but please for the sake of the children, do so with decency and respect. Polluting children’s minds is certainly not the answer. I feel terrible for the children who watched their parents (the leaders of their home) behave this way.

  8. When something disgusts you, you won’t accept it. This is not what these people want nor has it ever been. At least we all know this now.

Exactly, hence why two wrongs don’t make a right. No one who does something that can be considered disgusting, is in the right. For every cause, there is a proper way to present it.

  9. I was shocked -stunned – by the pictures. I do not live in the States but have been following the news and did not see any of these type of pictures. Maybe they thought it was too pornographic to focus on – for it is indeed lewd and licentious. I am amazed that parents donned these in front of children. You are right – two wrongs do not make a right. Indeed, the response is far more graphic and worse than the initial offence.

Very good point. The response was much worse. The media gladly showed the nice family pictures and the unity of all who protested, but they conveniently left out the vulgar sides of it. With the exception of a few famous people who made their appearance and then said some very crude comments loud and clear for the whole audience to hear. It’s saddening to realize what these children were subjected to. Thank you so much for your comment!

Yes, that would be wonderful. No matter the cause or the protest, many more people would listen if it was peaceful. People are much more apt to listen to a calm speaker than they are to someone who is yelling. That stands true for nearly all situations.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Our country has seen better days and I’m saddened to see what’s happening to people. I am learning to watch less news and focus on more positive media. Life is too short to give them the ratings they want. I pray often my grandchildren will not have to face such hurtful times. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thank you, Laura. It’s wonderful that you are trying to focus on the good. There’s plenty out there, regardless of what we see through the media, peers, etc. I pray too that your grandchildren won’t have to face what we are. That’s it exactly – what is happening now will affect the future generations. It saddens me that many people can’t see through their cause and realize the negative impact their actions may have. As I always say, there is a way to do something and a way not to. It’s very important to choose wisely. Thank you so much for your comment!
