I was born and raised in the beautiful United States of America. A country where people looked out for their fellow man, treated others with honor and respect, upheld their values and morals and taught their children to do the same.
Then slowly it began to change and soon I found myself in a foreign land. A land where people despised one another, attacked their neighbors, rioted in the streets and destroyed their own homes. A land where love was replaced by hatred and unity was replaced by division. A land I was ashamed to call home – the Divided States of America.
Fortunately, there is hope. Our country can regain its name and once again become a nation that we can be proud to call home, with people we can proudly call our neighbors.
It is up to us to make this happen.
Regardless of who our leader is or who we voted for, if we want our country to succeed, then we must unite. ALL of us – no matter our differences, beliefs or backgrounds. That is our duty as citizens of the UNITED States of America.
Me - Who am I? 
The politicians are not the country. We are. They could disappear (from my lips to God’s ear!) and we’d figure it out. This whole red and blue thing has got to go. Good post.

It is hard to be optimistic after seeing such hatred at Trump Rallys and hearing him spew such venom too. It is hard to think there are so many who hate out there- I live in a town filled with diversity- our Mayor is Muslim, the deputy Mayor Jewish, African Americans people on the town council. It frightens me to see how much of the United States came together with Trump and his hate

I think that is one of the most widely misinterpreted impressions of this entire election. The majority of people who voted for Trump are not racist at all. They didn’t vote for him based on his poorly thought out, negative remarks about various races and religions. They voted for him because they are tired of seeing America fall apart. Division has escalated substantially in the past 8 years, medical costs have skyrocketed, known terrorists have been allowed into the country and have caused deaths to innocent civilians, people have been taught that lawlessness and unruly behavior is acceptable by the constant promotion of such… The democratic party had their chance to make this country a safe, united and prosperous nation for all, but failed to do so. The people who voted for Trump didn’t vote for him because they hate others, but because they love them. They care about their fellow citizens and this country that we all share, and are hoping for a brighter future for everyone. Unfortunately, the media ignores that side and instead they have chosen to fuel the fire of division with lies and exaggerations.

The media does not lie when there are videos of Trump rallies with people shouting Heil Hitler with arms raised, hitting Gay people and calling them names, and screaming at Muslims that they want their White America back. Trump imitating a reporter’s disability is not the media making things up- he actually did it. I am embarrassed that this is the President of the USA.The white supremacists that have risen up in support of him are looking to make America great again by making it white and Christian- I am sorry I cannot agree with you- people want change, rightly so, but to bring about change by instilling fear and invoking hate which brings the haters out in force is not what America is about. My husband lost his grandparents to Hitler- another egomaniacal demagogue who wanted Germany free of anyone not of the Aryan race. Trump seeks to divide not unite.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. Hitler was one of the most evil people who ever walked this earth and nothing he did, nor his mindset should ever be repeated.
Unfortunately, you are right that some people have taken this to the extreme and have supported Trump because of these terrible ideologies. That is why I said “the majority.” Those people do make up the majority, but unfortunately just like everything else the media presents to the masses, they focus on the negative rather than the good. Hate and evil sells, positive news does not. It is horrible and inexcusable that people still have hate in their hearts and that their hatred is being highlighted and even glorified. Awful. But, they do not represent the majority.
Sadly, there was no good choice with either of the candidates. Both are greatly flawed in different ways. All I know, is that I don’t want my son growing up in a nation like the one we have right now. So, I will give this man a chance and wait, pray and hope that he will do good things during his presidency. Also, as a side note – thank you for this discussion. I greatly respect when adults can share their opinions maturely and openly. It’s important.

I hope love weighs out over hate and that tolerance and that the people of America can find a good place with one another, even if Trump takes the road of division. In many ways it is up to us.
