“Blame doesn’t empower you. It keeps you stuck in a place you don’t want to be, because you don’t want to make the temporary, but painful decision, to be responsible for the outcome of your own life’s happiness.” ~ Shannon Alder

I blame this post for making me feel guilty about blame! 😉

Haha! That’s right and you are completely justified for doing so.

The more I think about this, the more I realize how deeply frightened one would have to be to not succeed because they are afraid to take the blame for their own unhappiness. And yet so many of us are just that, in one degree or another.

I read this last night and have been pondering it since, but didn’t have the time to reply till now. I wonder what frightens people about that. Could it simply be the simple fact that then they’d have to admit that their unhappiness is primarily their own doing? I suppose it can be difficult to admit that *we’re* the ones who chose our path, or at the very least – it was our choice how we responded to it.

Have you read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho? The story is about having the courage to follow a path. I highly recommend it.

Just read the book summary and it sounds very enlightening. I’ll check my local library to see if it’s in stock.

I read it about fifteen years ago and it still resounds whenever I find myself hesitating.

Oh I have such a hate relationship with blame! I don’t want to blame or be blamed. I cannot escape either!

It’s never fun to admit that we’re the one to blame, but that’s the important place where change begins. I rather blame myself any day than have someone else blame me for something I had no part in.

That’s true. And I would rather own up to my mistakes then have someone else start pointing the finger.

You mean I’m not supposed to blame anyone or anything else for my unhappiness? Not even myself? Oh, well, I guess I’ll have to try something else!

No, no, no… definitely blame yourself. 🙂 That’s the key to happiness. Sounds strange, but it’s true.
