While walking through the toy aisle the other day something hit me. My son is 15 years old. He doesn’t play with toys anymore. Stopping in the middle of the aisle, I thought to myself “What do I do now?”
For all of these years I’ve been buying him toys. Granted the toys have been age appropriate, but they have been toys nonetheless. What in the world do you buy a 15 year old? Electronics and games are always the top choice, but he’s got plenty of those already.
Cologne. Why not? A 15 year old wants to smell good for the ladies, right? He’ll love it! Right? I hope so, because I’ll be wrapping it soon.
Speaking of wrapping presents, do you even put presents under the tree for a 15 year old? When do you stop putting presents under the tree? When they move out? Without a child in the house we would have no presents under the tree, so I have no clue how that works.
I suppose no matter how old we are, we still enjoy unwrapping presents. Anyway, this whole growing older thing has got me stumped.
An electric razor. That’s what he got last year for his peach fuzz. Great idea, Grandpa. But, he likes his peach fuzz believing that it makes him look more manly, so he hasn’t even opened the box. He’s decided to grow those little hairs out. The manly look will go well with the cologne, I suppose.

What else do you get a 15 year old? Buying toys was so much easier.

Unless you are giving cash I think they won’t be crazy about anything you buy. He is fifteen it just isn’t cool to. Never mind in a few years you will be buying plenty. After all they do get married eventually or something.

Video games, VISA gift cards (money, but also teaches them how to keep track of the thing so they can spend it), iTunes cards, wacky t-shirts and hoodies.
Lots of Axe body spray. 😀

Thanks for the idea! He’s good with his money, usually saving it up until he can buy something really nice with it. I like the gift card ideas and the Axe spray. I almost bought an Axe gift box kit the other day. Maybe I’ll go back and get it.

I was so pleased when Mr. T graduated from Axe to Old Spice – those Axe years were rough!
And there was the year that he received probably 7 different gifts of body spray/deodorant/shampoos, LOL! This year he did ask for a specific one, cause he likes the bag in comes in!
Plus, a pocket knife (that he won’t be able to carry anywhere…) and a new bathrobe (apparently at 16 he is still growing, and a bathrobe is pretty mandatory for a naked jaybird!) and a book, keep his mind sharp. Last year it was a Duck Dynasty book, this year, 1 min prayers for young men.

No Axe, eh? Old Spice smells good. I was looking at that, but ending up getting him a different scent, but I can’t remember the name now. It smells very good and not too overwhelming.
A bathrobe is a good idea too. I can see that. My son is exactly the same. He practically sneaks from the bathroom to his bedroom so that I don’t see him wrapped up in his towel. 🙂 It’s pretty funny to watch. A book is a definite. A kid can never have enough books, whether they like them or not. Thank you so much for the great ideas!

I think you’re right. It just wouldn’t seem right to have an empty tree. A voucher to the movies – I like that idea! He loves movies.

Glad I gave you an idea… 😉 I don’t like giving money, although it’s what they want. But if you give them a voucher to the movies, maybe a voucher to a restaurant afterwards or something. Then that helps too… and maybe make it two and he can take his girl too 😉

After many long thought out ideas for gifts which totally bombed. I now give a small something that I know for sure the “kids” will love, beyond that, it’s money. The present for the season is spending time together. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Me

I’m in same boat with a 15-year-old here this year, but I’ve been through it once before, so I already know gift cards, movies, etc. I also started them on a tool box around this time. Then they get one new tool each year. Not especially exciting, but something they will have and use down the line and an easy one for everyone to contribute to. Also Vans shoes! They also offer a gift card to design their own. Can’t go wrong with Vans. Also decided on a pocket-sized camera (Canon PowerShot N) that his some fun things and will upload right to social networks. And a Nook/Kindle. EZ.

A tool box is a very wise idea. It’s good to get them started now on what they will need later. Smart thinking. He wants a iPnone 5 which I’m sure has a great camera on it, but that seems a bit too much for a 15 year old. So a regular camera sounds like a great idea. Thank you for these ideas! Shopping next week may be a little easier now.

I’ve given a little digital camera, a special shirt, a Swatch watch. Something a little outside the ordinary shopping that we do for them all the time. Happy gifting!

My nephew always let me know what exactly was the right kind of thing to buy. At this age it was usually clothes related, appearance related (like what you’re doing) or money related. And I say wrap and put under the tree for EVER. 🙂

I wish my son would tell me what he wants. He always leaves me with the same two options, which is not much to work with. He’s not too into clothes, but he does like money. Maybe I should add that into his stocking this year. I agree about wrapping and putting things under the tree.

I remember as a teenager having money in my pocket gave me a bit of comfort. I ‘could’ do something. But a pop or do something the other kids were doing. Or save it. Or buy something I wanted. Having it was more a matter of the possibilities. That’s a nice gift it’s self. 🙂
