Let The Summer Games Begin!

river

Summer is here! Not officially, but in my home, summer starts as soon as my son is out of school for the year. Without question, summer is my favorite time of the year. Not only is the weather absolutely beautiful, but I get to enjoy it with my son.

We have many summer traditions. First, is the last day of school celebration dinner. Each year, we go out to celebrate the completion of another school year. It’s hard to believe that in just a few short years, that tradition will come to an end.

Our second tradition, is spending a day in the mountains, once every other week. We kick off our shoes and play in the gentle streams. From there, we head up the mountain a little further to hike on various trails. Then, we relax at a lake, any lake we run into. Finally, we end the day with an ice cream; an ice cream for him. That’s his reward for putting up with all the driving.

He and I are very different in that respect. I love road trips, whereas for him, that’s almost as boring as sitting in an elevator. Speaking of road trips, that’s our third tradition. We have some exciting trips planned this summer. One of which has been a dream trip for years, for my mother and I. That I’ll discuss later, as the time gets closer.

For now, the mountains are calling us. So, without further ado, let the summer games begin!

What are some of your summer traditions?

Ah, how I would love to be able to get out with my kids. But they have so many totally opposite interests, and with one on a feeding pump and unable to breathe properly in the hot humid air, it’s very difficult. Your summer sounds like heaven!

Linda, I feel for you. I know it’s not easy. As someone stated though, there’s always fun to be had in your own backyard. It may just take some creativity.

Each and every Summer I do my very best to plan, save, & rent a car to drive to a cottage or trailer for one week. Because I am a single mother not working now, its been rather tough to do this. If you stop by my blog, I was almost ready to pack up & head to cottage country & our apartment was flooded. Jokes on us though, because we ended up having to live in our neighbours trailer, (in our parking lot) LOL for three weeks! So, it was a stay-cation in a trailer & we had a blast! Wherever you go, or even if you cant get out, theres so many ways just to celebrate on your own front/back door 😀

That sounds like fun. Some of the greatest vacations (of any sort) are the unplanned ones. I’m glad you were able to make the best of that situation and enjoy it. I agree with you about having fun through your own front door. There is much to do and see. We love spending time outdoors, anywhere, near or far.

That’s fun too! Leisure bike rides though, not mountain biking. We saw some mountain bikers yesterday and my son has decided that they must have mighty powers to go up those trails. I agree with him. 🙂

      • Oh I wish I had the knees to do that. But it’s awesome to just “go” somewhere under one’s own power. Regardless of how fast or slow one gets there. 🙂

That’s exactly what I was watching – their knees. I like to think of myself as pretty fit, but I don’t think I would make it 20 feet up those trails.

          • There is another ‘style’ of bike riding I was watching videos of during the winter months. I wish I could do THAT. It’s like trick riding. A little bike. Making it jump and slide on things. I love the fun of it. Though it looks like it could hurt too. 😉

Oh how fun! I’m certain you will pick the perfect place to celebrate. Yesterday was fun and hopefully we’ll be heading up there again next week or the week after. Love the quality time!

I used to have a load of traditions too but money and age have taken over. Still, I love going out at dusk to sit in a lawn chair and watch the fireflies and listen to the tree frogs.
