Failure is Inevitable

stepping stones

Unless we spend our lives asleep, failure is inevitable. We will all fail at some point. However, it’s not the failure that matters. What’s important, is how we respond to it. Do we let it keep us down or do we get back up and try again?

In fact, a failure isn’t a failure at all, if we learn from it. Thomas Edison said it best, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10000 ways that won’t work.”

Whether it be a career, marriage, a project or a required task, we are bound to experience unexpected outcomes. When this happens, it is our responsibility to figure out why. First and foremost, we should never place the blame on others. If we’re involved in any way, then we have a part in the final outcome. We are not exempt.

Therefore, we must closely examine our work and ourselves to discover where the problem lies. Then, we can make the necessary changes to prevent from failing again. No matter what happens, keep on keeping on, until you get it right.

Unfortunately, many people give up after the first try. They lose confidence and the motivation to continue. Thomas Edison had another quote, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

There are others who are afraid to fail and because of it never try anything. Life is too short to sit around doing nothing, while letting fear control us. We don’t have to be mediocre.

“Failure is the foundation of success, and the means by which it is achieved.” ~ Lao Tzu

We never know what’s awaiting us just around the corner, and we’ll never find out if we give up or if we don’t try at all. Success in everything, is right in front of us. All we have to do is grab a hold of it.

Our mistakes are not failures. They are stepping stones toward success.

  1. OH SO TRUE! Great post. Great reminder to keep trying the things I want to try. Fail or not, there are lessons in the learning. I love those quotes. These are part of the things we should learn as children.

Great post. I see your view on this very clearly. When I posted about my “fear” of losing my dream by failing I was blown away by some of the comments. They made so much sense. Just like your post. I will try to be brave and risk shattering my dreams with failure. Who knows what it might lead to.

Yep stepping stones. Do mistakes count as failures? I’m making a lot of stupid mistakes at work lately. I know it’s because I need a break and my heart just isn’t in it any more but still…. lol

I think anything is a failure if it includes giving up. You have a head start on yours already, by knowing why they’re being made. Do I sense a vacation in your near future? 🙂

I’m actually off from the 18 – 26th. Hopefully we are going to get away for a few days but trying to find somewhere at this time of year is crazy. I’m then back at work for two weeks and then off for another week when my middle child and his wife come to visit.
What I would really like to do is either a) find a new career (hello $$$ for training) or b) take a month holiday and do some extensive travelling (hello $$$ again).
I’m putting both options out to the universe. 🙂
