Pajama Bottoms – Why?

pajamasIt’s not just a Wal-Mart thing anymore. No matter where I go, I see people wearing their pajama bottoms in public. From restaurants, to bus stops, to professional offices, pajamas are worn everywhere. The people who do this are not only the young folk. All age groups have seemingly adopted this new style.

A few months ago, I saw a well put-together business man who looked to be of CEO status. He carried himself with pride, his hair was neatly combed and he was wearing a very nice button up shirt. Then, as he rounded the corner I noticed that it was only his top half that was dressed professionally. Below that, he was wearing cartoon pajama bottoms. Perhaps he was a newscaster and didn’t need pants?

So my question is, why? Why has this become such a popular style of clothing to be worn in public? I am honestly not out to judge anyone who does this. I simply want to know why, merely out of curiosity. Have you seen this where you are or this just a Midwest style?

I’m in Canada and it drives me crazy here too, trying to figure out why.

I’ve seen a little bit of pajama-wearing here in Ireland and have been known to wear them myself a few times. I think there’s probably a few reasons: they’ve become more stylish; they’re colourful; comfy and, as you say, becoming more acceptable.

  3. I am a father and always tired… I am lucky to have pants on…

I see it here, too. I wouldn’t do it, but it doesn’t bother me when others do it. Now, if people start going around with NO pants on at all, then I might stay home a lot more!

  5. Oh. My. Gosh. I cannot stand the pajama pant wearing! it takes a whopping 15 seconds to put on a pair of jeans. I really can’t stand when I see kids going to school in pajama pants!

I’ve seen women, mostly young, who are wearing the pajama bottoms, but I haven’t seen any men wear them in public. I actually like them for wearing at home. Both my husband and I wear them when we are planning on staying in. If, be chance, we decide to go someplace, we change to ‘street clothes’.

Should people wear them out in public? I think the notion is ridiculous but if they don’t mind others laughing at them, why not. I think it’s better than having pants just barely hanging on the butt.

I do love coming home and jumping into a nice comfortable pair of pajama pants. Relaxation at its best.

You have a point about the sagging pants. I must agree. I’d rather see pajama bottoms that are pulled up than I would the moon.
